We have some news we’re very happy to share. Ronen Morecki has joined Appcharge as our Chief Operating Officer.
Ronen joins us from monday.com, where he was VP of Payments. He’ll lead our payments strategy and operations as we keep extending our platform to app developers in mobile gaming and beyond.
25 years on both sides of the transaction
Few people in payments have seen the industry from as many angles as Ronen. He has spent more than 25 years building and scaling payments and enterprise SaaS businesses, and he has led payments for both providers and merchants.
On the provider side, he co-founded the payments technology company ZooZ. When PayU acquired ZooZ, he became PayU’s CTO. On the merchant side, he led payments, pricing and packaging, billing, and the subscription lifecycle at monday.com. He also drove monday.com’s shift to AI-era pricing models.
So Ronen knows what it takes to build payments infrastructure. He also knows what it’s like to run a business that depends on it. For a company that handles payments on behalf of its partners, that experience is hard to find, and we’re thrilled to have it.
What Ronen will focus on
At Appcharge, Ronen will focus on three things:
- strengthening our Merchant of Record platform
- expanding our payment capabilities
- cementing our position as the leading payments company serving the global gaming market
As part of our senior leadership team, he’ll also help drive our next stage of operational maturity and growth, including into other sectors within the app economy.
“Games are the hardest payments problem in the app economy, with huge transaction volumes and dozens of local payment methods in every market,” said Maor Sason, our CEO and co-founder. “Ronen has built and run complex global payment organizations, which is exactly what we need as we take DTC further and deliver value for publishers in the wider app economy.”
Why now
Court rulings and regulation in the US and EU have opened DTC payments to every app that sells digital goods or subscriptions through Apple and Google. Game publishers moved first. We expect subscription, fitness, education, and AI apps to follow.
The global in-app purchase (IAP) market across all consumer apps is projected to reach $450B by 2030, according to Grand View Research. That points to a DTC opportunity that could eventually reach tens of billions of dollars across the app economy.
Ronen sees Merchant of Record as the model that makes that possible.
“Every business wants a payments partner that takes the complexity out without taking away control", said Ronen. “Orchestration platforms solved technical routing. Merchant of Record is the next step. It absorbs the financial complexity too, from tax, fraud, and chargebacks to compliance and managing multiple acquirers across every region, while staying optimized for each merchant. Game publishers have already proved Appcharge’s model at more than a billion dollars a year. My focus is on reinforcing Appcharge’s payments infrastructure as the strongest in gaming, and ready for any app that follows".
Welcome to the team, Ronen
Game publishers showed what DTC can do when the payments behind it are built right. With Ronen on board, we’re building the payments infrastructure for every app that comes next.
